چکیده :
Energy storage systems (ESSs), as one of the influential elements in the performance of the power system, can be one of the candidates facing investors for profitability. In addition to having unique attractions for investment, these elements have limitations, including cycle life. For this purpose, in this paper, a new concept has been introduced to evaluate the cycling capability of the ESSs. In other words, a new criterion named payback cycles has been proposed for economic evaluations for investment in the ESSs. This criterion evaluates the number of charge/discharge cycles required to return the investment cost of the ESSs. In economic evaluations, this criterion can give investors a good view for making decisions along with the payback period. In addition, using the payback cycles, it is possible to determine the minimum profitability required in each charge/discharge cycle, and as a result, make a more appropriate decision for development of ESSs.
