چکیده :
Energy crisis is a serious problem caused by limited nonrenewable resources, climate change and population growth. It is needed to find ways to harvest energy from renewable sources. One of them is mechanical energy, which can be converted into electricity by using piezoelectric or triboelectric effect. However, piezoelectric conversion has low efficiency and complex fabrication. Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is a better alternative, as it has high output and low cost. It can be made of common materials like polymers, metals and fabrics. This paper introduces and analyzes a gym floor TENG (GF-TENG) that uses gym floor mats to harvest electrical energy from human footsteps. The performance of GF-TENG under various environmental and structural conditions like footstep frequency, the gym flooring mat and the foot state were studied by measuring the output voltage and current density of the GF-TENG. Maximum output voltage and current density was obtained as 50 V and 140 micro ampere/m^2. The GF-TENG device can light up 10 green commercial LEDs in series just by jumping a 50 kg weight person on it with the contact area of approximately 345 cm^2. Regarding to different output voltage peaks for distinct activities such as walking, jogging, running and jumping it can also be a self-powered footstep motion sensor.
